"The new brand is more than just a new logo or website; it’s a commitment to genuine inclusion and representation"
said Mahboobeh, one of the refugees involved in the redesign. Human connection lies at the core of the Refugee Council, and this theme is powerfully reflected in their new visual identity.

The Refugee Council’s updated branding was a collaboration between the agency Shape History and refugees themselves, resulting in a design that feels authentic and deeply connected to the people it represents.
Illustrations
The hand-crafted linocut style of the illustrations embodies the theme of human connection. Refugees played an active role in creating these designs, contributing to the feeling of shared ownership and collaboration.

Connection
The illustrations often depict people connecting, whether through physical gestures like linked arms or simply being together. These images focus on the everyday moments and objects that unite us, highlighting the basic items needed to live and thrive.
Stories of Humanity
The content centres around the individuals the Refugee Council has helped, sharing their personal stories and helping build a deeper connection with the cause. It fosters empathy and understanding by showcasing real people.
Tone of Voice
The tone is inclusive, expressing the idea of ‘one nation,’ reinforcing the message that we are all part of the same community. This approach encourages compassion and solidarity, highlighting that we are all in this together.

Typography
Even the typography reflects this human connection. The bespoke, hand-crafted typeface ‘Grit and Grace’ was created using the same linocut technique as the illustrations, ensuring that every element of the brand feels personal and thoughtfully designed.

In every detail, from the imagery to the font, the human touch is evident, creating a brand identity that speaks to our shared humanity. It's impossible not to feel connected to the cause.
