The Goal: Making Ecology Accessible
After creating the illustrated animal profiles for the Large Herbivore Working Group, the project needed a dedicated digital home. This group is a huge collaborative effort, sparked by a rewilding consultant and former Knepp safari ranger, with core copy provided by the Head of Nature for The Wildlife Trusts. They had a wealth of incredible but dense ecological papers from organisations like the Lifescape Project and Rewilding Britain. The goal was to build a central hub to organise all this high-level academic content so it felt engaging and easy to navigate for a wider audience.

The Design: A Tactile, Hand-Drawn Aesthetic
One of the absolute best parts of this project was curating the imagery. The final site looks incredibly lush and full of life, but to make those heavy academic resources feel approachable, the visual style had to be just right. I gave the site a tactile, hand-drawn aesthetic. By layering sketched elements and subtle ripped paper textures, the design grounds the science in the natural world. It feels beautifully authentic and authoritative, completely avoiding the beige feel of a standard academic database.
The Build: Bringing it to Life
I designed and built the site from the ground up in Wix Studio, focusing on making it a genuinely interesting space to explore. The layout is full of gentle movement, with text and graphics that respond beautifully as you hover over them. It not only stores an extensive resource library, it brings that library to life, creating a highly visual space that researchers, and conservationists will genuinely enjoy exploring.
